What would you miss most about your home?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 07, 2008:
I can answer this because I moved away from home for 3 years. I moved from Skowhegan, Maine, to Charleston, S.C. 2005-2008
What I missed most was my family of course.
It was different for me living in an area with such diverse classes of people. In downtown, millionaires lived literally 1 mile from the poorest, sickest people in town. I have never seen such diversity in classes before and it was very troubling. So I missed the way people mixed together so easily back home. It seemed that money was the only important thing and social standing in Charleston. Who likes that? Certain people won't talk to you in charleston unless you go to their curch or look a certain way. Such bullshit!
I also missed the clean air smell. Charleston reeks of "puff mud" the salty, spongy mud and sea residue. Maine has a clean air smell, piney, and fresh.
I missed the four seasons too. It is too hot in Charleston, and there is no snow. There werent any mountains either. Everything is flat in the lowcountry. I love driving down the old canada road in Maine to see the mountains. When everything is flat, its boring to look at. The moutians are like the earth's fingers reaching to the heavens!
Of course I missed old friends too but they have since moved away from Skowhegan. A lot are still in Maine in Portland and I will visit them. I moved back to Skowhegan in July of 2008. I'll be moving to Orono in January to go to college.
Alright, take care!

Help

From a fellow New Englander I know what you mean about the change of the seasons. Would find it hard to live without that. We went camping in Maine some when I was a child, and visited once as an adult. It’s a very beautiful state! Some thoughts of other New Englanders….
Mountains are earth’s undecaying monuments. ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne
We discover a new world every time we see the earth again after it has been covered for a season with snow. ~ Henry David Thoreau
great blog
I have seen what you have seen… the world needs a hug does it not?
